To mark the 100th Birthday of York RI at Queen Street, we are proud to present 100 years, 40 miles: Lyke Wake Walk, our next endurance event. This iconic crossing of the North York Moors, traditionally covering around 40 miles from Osmotherley to the coast, was pioneered back in 1955 and will be a test of resilience! And so we celebrate our 100 years on this 70 year-old trail!
The event will be demanding but also a shared experience with fellow supporters!
The challenge is to complete the route, which involves 5,000ft of ascent, in 24 hours!

When: provisionally Saturday 23rd May 2026 (late May bank holiday weekend)
Distance: 40 miles
Walk time: achievable in 16 hours, the challenge is within 24 hours
Difficulty: difficult!
Start time: TBC but early hours to make best use of daylight
Why not arrange your own relay team and take sections of the walk?
Depending on sign ups, we will organise car shares or a coach to collect and pick up from agreed stops.
We intend to provide drinks and snacks enroute, (but do bring your own sustenance as well!) and transport to and from the walk, so a donation of at least £10 per participant is welcomed. We also encourage all involved to seek sponsorship to make this as successful as possible as a fundraiser!
Absolutely! Please do!
We will set up a Lyke Wake Walk fundraising page for you to share your fundraising link to closer to the date.
Please fill in the expression of interest form and we'll keep you updated on progress with the event.
